About Kiamichi Country
Kiamichi Country was incorporated in July of 1971 and covers Atoka, Bryan, Coal, Choctaw, Haskell, Latimer, Leflore, McCurtain, Pittsburg, and Pushmataha counties. We have seven ranges of mountains, twenty-five lakes and ten state parks. Seventy-five per cent of our roads are scenic. We have the Talimena National Scenic Byway, (the only one in the central U.S.) and the Kiamichi Trace, running from the Red River coming out of Texas to Fort Smith, Arkansas. We are the deer capitol of the world and the Bigfoot capitol of the world, and the only section of Oklahoma that has bear hunting season!
Our marketing efforts include printing 100,000 copies of the 60 page Kiamichi Country Visitors' Guide, this Web site, plus we do advertisements in Southern Living Magazine, The Oklahoma State Vacation Guide, Oklahoma Today, Home & Away, as well as other magazines in north Texas and Oklahoma, along with newspaper inserts in major newspapers in Oklahoma and surrounding states.
