LeFlore County Oklahoma is the mountain gateway to the Ouachita National Forest, it is also home of Cavanal Hil, "the world's highest hill" in Poteau, Oklahoma. The Talimena Scenic Drive in Talihina Oklahoma, on September 22, 2005 has just been designated as a National Scenic Byway, a 54 mile route that spans of of the highest mountain ranges between Appalachians and the Rockies. Leflore County is also home of the Heavener Runestone, Lake Wister State Park and Cedar Lake. Recreation activites include boating, skiing, fishing hunting, 4x4 trials, hiking, The Poteau Balloon festival and horseback riding.
